West Hallam Parish Council

The annual parish meeting is open to all residents and will be held on Thursday 15 May at 7:30pm. This is your opportunity to hear reports from the council, local police, county and district councillors, and to raise any issues affecting the village.

The Council raised strong objections to a proposed 45-home development off Church Lane, highlighting traffic congestion, loss of green belt land, and inadequate drainage infrastructure. Residents are encouraged to submit their views via the planning portal before the consultation deadline.

The annual accounts for 2025/26 have been approved by the external auditor and are now available for public inspection at the parish office and on the website. Total expenditure was £128,000, with reserves of £42,000 carried forward.

The parish council has partnered with the Woodland Trust to plant 150 native trees this autumn across three sites. Volunteers are welcome to help with planting days in November. Species include oak, hazel, rowan, and wild cherry to support local biodiversity.

Work is progressing on new LED street lighting across the parish, replacing outdated sodium lamps. The programme is expected to reduce energy costs by 60% and improve visibility at key junctions. Completion is scheduled for September.
