Forestry England will be awarding a contract for the Design, Supply and Installation of an inclusive, bespoke, timber shelter at Hicks Lodge, Leicestershire (LE65 2UP). Hicks Lodge is in the heart of the National Forest. It’s a former coal mining site that has been totally transformed by new plantings, trails, and visitor facilities creating an enjoyable day out for a wide range of audiences. Hicks Lodge is a great spot for budding cyclists with a range of trails for beginner and intermediate appetites. Walking and horse-riding paths encourage visitors to venture around the forest, and the lakeside bird hide is popular location for visitors who want to soak in the scenery and spot unique wildlife. For those visitors who love to play, two play areas are stationed on site, both designed with accessibility and inclusivity at their heart. Visitors can round-off their busy day with refreshments in the onsite café. Hicks Lodge is also an important host for a range of groups who provide activities designed to improve the mental and physical health of those that most need it. The new shelter will be a meeting, activity and picnicking space, used by a variety of different groups. It will be a place to come together and shelter from inclement weather. From T’ai-Ga (a mindful wellness practice that blends T’ai Chi, Qigong and yoga), nature and bushcraft workshops, to session briefings, evaluations and break out activities, the space will be a hive of activity throughout the year.
